HYPOCRITE

Here's the definition of hypocrite according to Merrian-Webster dictionary:

hyp·o·crite

Pronunciation: \ˈhi-pə-ˌkrit\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English ypocrite, from Anglo-French, from Late Latin hypocrita, from Greek hypokritēs actor, hypocrite, from hypokrinesthai
Date: 13th century
1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

It might come as a surprise that the word dates back to the 13th century, but I witnessed the true definition of the word this week. Imagine this scenario for an office:
A small company that tries to keep a friendly environment in the workplace. It has no employee manual or conduct guidelines. It provides no harassment training. No joke is forbidden in this place. The names used to joke around are usually "homo" or "fag". It offends you but you want to fit in, so you laugh at it. The salary is good, and the alcohol served on Friday mornings are welcome anyway. So you stay and endure 4 years working at this place. Then one day you're called in the CEO's office only to find out that you're being fired. No, you're actually being terminated for bad conduct! Allegedly, they are in possess of e-mails between you and a co-worker making fun of the manager that has been calling you a homo and fag for the past 4 years!

So, that's how this chapter of your life ends. You're better off anyway. But the question I keep asking myself is what's the definition of Bad Conduct? Because HYPOCRITE we already know what it is...
